Support at work – Graniti's People Lead model strengthens our work community

We put people at the center of everything. As we grew, we wanted to ensure that everyone got the support they needed to do their job and was closely involved in everyday life as part of the Graniti community. That's how the People Lead model was born.

As we grew, we built a new People Lead organization a few years ago, where Granit employees were divided into teams and the teams were named internally recruited People Leads – more familiarly known as PeLes. The goal was to strengthen everyday support, people-oriented leadership, and community-based activities.

Today, Graniit has four teams and four PeLes, each of whom brings their own experience, perspective and understanding of people to the common whole. The model has been very well received and is also reflected in employee satisfaction: 8.7/10.

PeLes are experienced experts who work fully on their client work and also act as support for other Granit employees. The role of a People Lead is above all to support a colleague: PeLe walks alongside, listens, spars and helps to succeed at work.

Who are the Granititin PeLet?

Maarit Takavainio

I have recently started a new role as People Lead. Although the title is new – supporting, developing and succeeding together with people has been a part of my entire career. I have almost 25 years of work experience, and since 2008 I have worked on IT projects in various industries in various roles, responsible for both teams and individual development.

My thoughts on the People Lead role

During my career, I have repeatedly noticed that the most important thing is not the technology, the operating model or the methods, but the people themselves. That someone stops, listens, asks the right questions and brings clarity, humor and a little order to the chaos.

"When the People Lead roles opened up, I felt like now was the right time to shift my focus from projects to the everyday lives and support of people at Graniit."

What also motivates me about my People Lead role is that I get to help create an atmosphere where everyone feels seen and heard. At the same time, I get to learn a lot from our amazing experts.

Nina Huhtakangas

I have over 25 years of experience in IT development projects and initiatives in various industries and an equal amount of experience in managing people. I think that the most important thing in projects is to lead people towards goals in a good spirit of cooperation. The second most important thing is to communicate in a high-quality and timely manner, taking into account different target groups.

My thoughts on the People Lead role

"Working with people has always been the joy of my job."

Together it is easier to overcome obstacles and to celebrate successes more strongly. Supporting others has been natural to me since childhood, and perhaps that is why I have been drawn to leading people. The best thing is to see someone succeed in their own work.

Mikko Ajoviita

I have twenty years of consulting experience in various roles and operating environments, of which I have had almost six years at Graniti. The most important area in procurement and projects is requirements that support business operations and operations. Team leadership responsibility has accumulated over the years in the line organization and in varying projects.

My thoughts on the People Lead role

"In my new role, I can learn new things from my team members and hopefully share them with them as well."

People are the most important resource in working life. We experience many kinds of joys and sorrows with them. Everyone needs support and a listener sometimes in the turmoil of everyday life.

Outi Penttilä

I have long-term experience in IT development projects and initiatives in various roles, including team leader, scrum master, project manager, and service manager. Development projects and initiatives have been a central part of my work throughout my career.

A key factor in my career has always been leading people, developing collaboration, and achieving a common goal.

My thoughts on the People Lead role

In the PeLe role, I strive to create an open and confidential two-way conversation, where we can discuss joys, sorrows and challenges together while sparring with each other. I also want to support my colleagues as a listener, there are things that we want to say out loud to someone, for which we don't expect a response.

"I am motivated if I can help my colleagues succeed at work, achieve their goals, and develop even further in their own work."

By talking to top professionals, my colleagues, I also get support, lessons learned, and insights for my own projects. When needed, I'm always ready to give a hug, but I try to recognize the other person's boundaries.
